Study Support

Extended Learning Opportunities - ELO (formerly known as Study Support)

Study support (out of school hours learning) covers a wide range of learning activities outside normal lesson time in which young people participate voluntarily. This includes activities such as homework and study clubs, sport and outdoor activities, the creative arts, community volunteering, mentoring, opportunities to pursue particular interests (e.g. ICT and languages) and learning about learning (i.e. study and thinking skills).

Study support includes the Playing for Success initiative, which has established study support centres at top football clubs and other sports grounds.

Benefits of QiSS

Quality in Study Support (QiSS) is a national organisation which offers recognition at 3 levels: Emerged, Established and Advanced. Status is recognised by Ofsted and ensures quality of provision for Out of Hours Learning.

Recognition can be realised by working with a local QiSS trained critical friend in the building of a portfolio, presented at a recognition day.
