Brighton Festival

Brighton Festival and Dome are two of the City's major arts projects. The Dome consists of three venues, a concert hall with a 2000 seat capacity, the multi-purpose Corn Exchange and the flexible studio space, the Pavilion Theatre. The Festival is a major international celebration of the Performing Arts across the town taking place over three weeks in May. The Brighton Festival and Dome Learning, Access and Participation department provides a variety of workshops and classes for all ages which link to the programmes of both the Festival and Dome. These can range from a scratch orchestra project for 100 local players working with the London Philharmonic Orchestra to a Master Class with Circus Oz or the National Theatre.

We run post-show talks, open sound checks/rehearsals and workshops with visiting companies and our resident dance company Hofesh Shechter. In addition the Education Unit runs series of workshops for young people in a variety of theatre, dance and circus skills.  We show the best in young people's theatre and hold special family friendly events such as the Winter Ceilidh. We have recently been awarded Arts Award Welcome status. Our outreach work includes drama projects with young Offenders and music projects with Care home residents and people with dementia.

During the Festival, the Learning, Access and Participation department programmes innovative European theatre for young people and runs 26 Letters, a major four day festival of Children's Literature. Various outreach programmes are attached to these projects including Adopt an Author, a project pioneered in Brighton which subsequently took place throughout the United Kingdom.
