Established as part of the national Wider Opportunities scheme, Soundmakers is a programme of  instrumental learning for whole classes at Key Stage 2. Creativity and inclusion are at the heart of the Soundmakers ethos. During the project the class will receive a high standard of instrumental tuition, explore a variety of musical styles  such as hip hop, reggae and blues, learn to play together as a band and, most importantly, start composing their own music. Each group devises an instrumental piece with their own melodies, rhythms and solos as well as composing their own song with instrumental backing and creating a sound scape. 100% of Junior/Primary schools in the city participate in the project helping over 2500 new pupils to become “Soundmakers” each year. The programme ends with a celebratory performance to parents and peers.
