Centre for Advanced Training - Brighton Satellite

For the last three years Brighton & Hove Music & Arts has worked in partnership with the Centre for Advanced Training at The Place in London to deliver four Brighton CAT satellite courses for gifted and talented young dancers.  Since January 2009 over 450 studients have been involved in the scheme through taster workshops and auditions.  Sixty seven students have successfully auditioned for the programme and have benefited from a course of intensive weekly training, choreographic workshops, theatre visits, trips to vocational dance schools and local and national performances.  Thirteen of these dancers have been accepted on to the London CAT programme, at either Laban or The Place, and are now thriving with the training and performance opportunities that the year round London courses offer.

The Brighton CAT Satellite is open to any young person aged between 11-14 years who lives within a reasonable drive time to Brighton.  Places on the Brighton CAT Satellite are by audition only.  For many of the Brighton CAT students the course offers them their first taste of contemporary dance.  A number of students come from ballet, street dance, disco and ballroom backgrounds.  Many have simply experienced dance as part of PE at school or from watching YouTube clips at home.
